File Preparation

Follow these simple instructions to ensure your files are compatible with Peninsula Press's systems. Whether you are on a Macintosh or PC, it is important to take note of these guidelines.

Be sure to include ALL support files with your document: scans, EPS, fonts

Image Preparation

    Bleeds
  • If required, must extend beyond the document's limits page AT LEAST 1/8". Please be sure no type or graphics fall outside this area as it will be trimmed.
  • All colour separations must be properly shown.
 
    Colour Separations 
  • All colour separations must be shown and saved in spot colour format, unless 4 colour process is desired, in which case all colour should be saved in CMYK format.
  • Any and all trapping, knockout and overprinting must be set up in your document.
  • If the job is 4 colour process, any RGB images MUST be converted to CMYK.

Text and Fonts

    Windows® Text Compatibility
  • Windows® users must use True Type fonts or convert live text to curves (Adobe Illustrator) or rasterize (Adobe Photoshop).
  • Graphics and text must be properly sized and in position.
 
    Macintosh Font Usage 
  • Mac users must include both the screen display and printer extension portions of ALL fonts used in both graphic and typeset documents.
  • Fonts must be included each time an order requiring them is placed.
  • During the pre-press stage, your font(s) will be temporarily used for proper output then they will be discarded.

Acceptable Document Formats

  • If using Windows®, files must be Saved As or exported as EPS : no live text.
  • When exporting files from Corel Draw you may need to export each page as an individual file.
  • If the option is available, save your files in a MAC format
 
  • Press-ready PDF is a universally acceptable format (please remember to make allowances for bleeds.)
  • QuarkXPress 6.0 (MAC) or lower

Document Submissions

  • Acceptable Media: Zip (100MB or 250MB), CD-ROM, DVD or Floppies.
  • Files can also be submitted electronically by e-mail or FTP.Files should be compressed using either WINZIP(Windows) or Stuffit (Macintosh).
 
  • All submissions must include the necessary ordering information plus a list of all support files (images and fonts) used in the project. Also please include a paper proof.
  • If you've chosen to submit your files electronically, paper proofs can be sent by fax or mail. An e-book PDF is accepted as a proof.
  • Please follow up any type of submission, to confirm it was received by Peninsula Press. Call 905-641-3030.

  • If under 2MG, files can be e-mailed by using the "Attach File" feature of your
    e-mail program.
  • Large files should be compressed. If the compressed size is larger than 2MG, they should be transfered via FTP.

    Prepare your files as usual and logon to your Personal Dropbox and upload your files. If you are a new Peninsula Press client, activate your free account by signing-up today.
